Last night, Enklu and Snap showcased a bold new model for social computing on the Spectacles at the All-In Podcast Holiday Spectacular. Huge thanks to Jason Calacanis and David Friedberg for the opportunity!
If you’re like me, you respect the game of chess, but playing competitively at a loud venue isn’t your idea of a good time.
Fortunately for people like us, The All-In “Besties” thought fit to put Holograms on the menu right next to the chess tournament and VIP section of their A-List event at the iconic Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco.
Together, Enklu and Snap transformed an unassuming room into an augmented reality wonderland with the Enklu Original DECK THE HOLOGRAMS.
The Mission
Hit JCal, Chamath, Sacks, and Friedberg with as many snowballs as possible in 90 seconds—augmented reality snowballs, of course.
The Challenge
We had less than two weeks to port and customize this holiday experience while juggling an already packed schedule. With new Verse Immersive cinematic game centers opening every two weeks, our R&D team was beyond full capacity.
But in the startup world, some opportunities are just too important to pass up. So we rolled up our sleeves and worked 18 hour days through Thanksgiving holiday - And we didn’t do it alone!
Thanks to an incredible team of Snap engineers who worked tirelessly on the nights and weekends, we fine-tuned and perfected the experience right up until the flood of guests put on the Spectacles for the first time.
If you’ve never had to fix a show-stopping crash bug with only minutes before a major event, one might wonder: have you ever truly lived?
And to top things off, Snap sent the big guns to cohost the event - Special shoutout to Terek Judi ,Sophia Dominguez, Laura Chambers - your teamwork and leadership made it possible to pull this off!
And wow did we pull it off. By the time Steve Aoki took the stage for the sold out crowd, countless All-In fans had experienced consumer AR for the first time, setting some incredible high scores, without so much as hiccup in performance. The winner won a new pair of Spectacles, and many came back three and four times—despite the line.
The Lowdown
The Spectacles are an impressive device. While not yet available to the public, Snap’s innovation here is extraordinary.
At Enklu, we push the limits of what’s possible, and the Snap Spectacles were not only up the challenge, they’re inspiring a new era of innovation thinking at team Enklu.
Social games in AR are how we bring this new medium to life and connect people in entirely new ways.The big picture remains evolving how humans interact with computers broadly. But the path to that vision is paved in social AR gaming.
Partnerships between giants like Snap and startups like Enklu are how we bring in the horizon and accelerate the augmented reality future.
